Writing Prompts

Day 1: Blackout Poetry

Find a poem, story, magazine page, or newspaper article

Read the page closely, thinking of the words being used and what you’d like to say

Circle words that you’d like to keep

Blackout all the other words on the page

Day 2: Make a list of five things that take too long.

Day 3: Use some of the lyrics from your favorite song to stir up ideas about a short story. Look for deeper meaning within the lyrics. Create a world within those words.

Day 4: Open the nearest book sitting next to you. Turn it to page 41. Start writing with the first sentence on the top of that page

Day 5: Adjective Attack!

An adjective is a word used to describe or modify a noun or noun clause.

For this writing exercise, think of 30 words to describe someone you love! Include them in a card and mail them off to spread some cheer during our shelter-in-place.
