Main Library Addition & Renovation News

The long-anticipated addition and renovation project at the main library in Fremont is finally underway, with the temporary construction fencing going up and the utility lines being re-routed. The building project, which has been in development since 2016, will provide many new spaces and services to meet community needs, including:

  • a more spacious and readily accessible entry and checkout area
  • a wifi café
  • children’s room with STEAM activity area and multi-sensory room
  • a dedicated teen room
  • a local history room and artifact display
  • additional meeting and tutoring spaces
  • technology training room
  • recording studio and makerspace
  • ADA compliant restroom facilities
  • an outdoor space for programs
  • more parking

 

Project Description

The new wing on the west end of the main library building will include a new entrance to the library and a new parking lot located along Croghan Street.   The new wing will house a lobby and restrooms on the first floor as well as the new children’s room on the second floor. The rest of the library building will be renovated to include the remainder of the new spaces listed above. The project is expected to take eighteen months to complete.  

Project Cost

The Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) of the project is $6,170,451.

How will the building project be funded?

In addition to $3.2 million dollars in the building fund, the library has obtained grants, loans, and donations from these sources:

  • U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development – Library Facilities Notes
  • State of Ohio Capital Funds in partnership with Terra State Community College
  • Strategic Economic and Community Development Grant
  • Birchard Library Association Foundation Capital Campaign
